History

1937

Koningin Emma Klinik was originally a center for pulmonary disease services, a clinic established in 1937 under the auspices of the Stichting Centrale Vereniging tot Bestrijding der Tuberculose (SCVT), a foundation for the eradication of tuberculosis in Medan that specialized in tuberculosis, equipped with a consultation bureau, which at that time was an advancement in the field of tuberculosis treatment because previously problem-solving was more emphasized on treating patients in sanatoriums.

1952

In 1952, the Medan Lung Hospital (RSPP) was established on Perintis Kemerdekaan Street, which was then known as Jati Medan Street. The Medan Lung Hospital (RSPP) is not under the administration of the Medan Pirngadi Hospital; although it is adjacent, it stands alone and was last known as BP4 Medan. Unfortunately, the building with an inscription from the International Union Against Tuberculosis Disease (IUALTD), an agency under WHO, had to be moved to Gaperta Ujung Street, and a luxury house was built. The Pulmonology Education, since its inception, was carried out in this place, both professional medical education and specialist education. Dr. H. Raden Soeroso, who led the Medan Lung Hospital since March 8, 1957, and was confirmed as an extraordinary professor (long arts) of pulmonary specialists.

1958

In 1958, Prof. H. R Soeroso was the pioneer founder of the Medan Department of Pulmonology and also served as the Head of the Pulmonology Department and was appointed Dean of the USU Faculty of Medicine in 1959. The USU Faculty of Medicine's Department of Pulmonology was one of the three earliest educational centers established in Indonesia and stood alone without expanding from Internal Medicine. Furthermore, those who served as section heads were: dr. HM Mochtar Tarigan. Sp.P from 1980 to 1986, dr. Luhur Soeroso. Sp.P from 1986 to 1995, dr. Sugito, Sp.P(K) from 1995 to 1997, dr. Sumarli, Sp.P(K) from 1998 to 2000, and Prof. dr. Luhur Soeroso. Sp.P(K) from 2000 to this day.

Now

To date, the Lung Department of FK USU/Department of Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine Medan has produced more than 81 Lung Specialist Doctors. Education is carried out at the Medan H. Adam Malik Hospital, Medan Haji Hospital, Medan Lung Disease Treatment Center (BP4), Pirngadi Hospital, and Medan Deli Tobacco Hospital.
