Specialist Medical Education Program (Sp-1)

The Specialist Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) studies the science and art of pregnancy preparation or those related to midwifery, encompassing fetomaternal, fertility, and gynecology. With an accreditation of Very Good (A), this study program is one of the best midwifery education institutions in North Sumatra.

As the Head of the Study Program, I am proud to welcome you to our institution dedicated to becoming an institution that organizes Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Doctor education with BINTANG values (Devoted to Almighty God, Innovative, Resilient and Wise) towards a center of excellence in the fields of reproductive health and preventive oncology by the year 2025 in Southeast Asia. Graduate Profile

The following is a list of graduate profiles found in Specialist-1 Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology

Graduates of this study program can become obstetricians and gynecologists in hospitals, clinics, or private practices. They care for female patients during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum and provide routine and specialized gynecological care.

Some graduates of this course choose to specialize as gynecological surgeons and perform surgical procedures to treat gynecological problems such as fibroids, endometriosis, or reproductive cancers. They are required to perform laparoscopic, hysteroscopic, or other open surgeries according to the patient's needs.

Graduates of this study program can also become clinical researchers at medical research institutes or universities, researching obstetrics and gynecology to improve their understanding of disease and develop new therapies. They can also become teachers in medical colleges and medical schools.

If graduates of this course choose to become reproductive health consultants, they can work in public health agencies or international organizations. Their duties include providing technical advice on reproductive health care, developing reproductive health policies, and training health workers.

As reproductive health program managers in government or non-government agencies, graduates will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of reproductive health programs that aim to improve the reproductive health of women in the community.
