The Fetomaternal Service of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty of Medicine is one of the subspecialty branches within the field of obstetrics and gynecology that focuses on the detection and diagnosis of as well as dealing with issues concerning pregnant mothers, as well as the development and diagnosis of fetal disorders in the womb.
This service encompasses preconception, prenatal, and postpartum care. By providing fetomaternal service, the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty of Medicine aids pregnant mothers in detecting and diagnosing pregnancy and fetal disorders as early as possible. By identifying these conditions as early as possible, the pregnancy and delivery process can run smoothly, as well as maternal health recovery can occur quickly by preventing long-term complications due to future pregnancies.

The Reproductive Endocrinology and Fertility Service of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty of Medicine offers a range of highly maximized subspecialty services that cater to the broader community, such as hysteroscopy, operative laparoscopy, assisted reproductive technologies, surgeries related to gynecological and reproductive hormone abnormalities, as well as implements the development of integrated reproductive health services.

The Gynecologic Oncology Service of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty of Medicine is centered at the H. Adam Malik Central General Hospital. This service is one of the leading services expected to be able to carry out the prevention and treatment of increasing cancer cases, both in terms of quantity and quality, particularly in the North Sumatra region.
Since the issuance of the Decree of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in 2014, the H. Adam Malik Central General Hospital started to implement its role as a National Referral Hospital for Oncology. The activities carried out in the context of cancer prevention and treatment at Adam Malik Central General Hospital include:

• Promotive efforts through monthly lectures, public seminars, TV talk shows, brochures, banners, newspapers/magazines, and social media.
• Preventive efforts by implementing a no-smoking policy within the hospital premises; minimizing radiation exposure in Radiology, Radiotherapy, and Nuclear Installation; avoiding the use of food containing preservatives, synthetic coloring, and flavor enhancers in the Nutrition Installation and Hospital Canteen; conducting lectures/public seminars on cancer prevention; and performing surgeries for cancer prevention.
• Early detection of cancer through mammography, mammae ultrasound, pap smear, cancer vaccines, bronchoscopy, and endoscopy; public lectures/seminars on early signs and symptoms of cancer; as well as brochures and banners on early signs and symptoms of cancer.
• Implementation of cancer therapy through surgery, ranging from small to large tumors (from early to advanced stages); chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and targeted therapy in rooms by nurses with specialized skills; brachytherapy and radiotherapy; as well as nuclear medicine.

With the presence of the Gynecologic Oncology Service at the H. Adam Malik Central General Hospital, Medan, it is expected that all cancer patients can be promptly treated. When cancer treatment is promptly carried out, the progression of the disease can be minimized and overcome, thereby increasing the prospects for recovery and the lifespan of the patients.

The Reconstructive Urogynecology Service of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty of Medicine provides comprehensive and high-quality urogynecological health services.
Reproductive health issues related to urogynecology generally occur during active reproductive age but can also arise in adolescence and when entering old age.
Diseases related to urogynecology, such as anatomical abnormalities of the uterus and birth canal, perineal tears following childbirth, urinary incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse, do not cause mortality. However, they can lead to biopsychosocial disturbances and impact the diminishment of quality of life for women.
To handle these issues, the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty of Medicine is determined to assist the government in enhancing the quality of life for women in Indonesia by providing comprehensive, quality urogynecological health services accessible to all members of society.

The Social Obstetrics and Gynecology Services of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty of Medicine applies a holistic, biopsychosocial, and comprehensive approach with primary, secondary, and tertiary preventions to solve obstetrics and gynecology issues.
The Social Obstetrics and Gynecology Service is a development of obstetrics and gynecology in which the management integrates preventive sciences (promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative) so it takes part in taking into account the environmental factors related to maternal and perinatal mortality phenomena as well as women's reproductive organ diseases.
Therefore, the Social Obstetrics and Gynecology Service is competent in holistically providing consultations to solve reproductive health issues in individuals and society, utilizing appropriate, comprehensive, and integrated technologies.
