Specialist Medical Education Program (Sp-1)

The Specialist-1 Program in Psychiatry of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is a study program that teaches the skills to diagnose and treat various mental health disorders, including anxiety disorders, depression, schizophrenia, and more. Established in 1980 with expert and nationally certified teaching staff, students have the opportunity to gain interactive and effective hands-on and problem-based learning experiences.

This study program is deeply committed to training students to become future professional psychiatrists who are skilled, qualified, and can overcome the mental health problems of the Indonesian people from a scientific and humanitarian perspective so as to help the lives of Indonesian people be physically and mentally healthy. Students who have completed this study program will hold the Psychiatry Specialist (Sp.K.J.) degree.

History

1949

In 1949, Prof. dr. M. Ildrem, Sp.KJ, Sp.S was assigned to Medan Central Hospital (now called RSUD dr. Pirngadi). Then, he opened two polyclinics, namely Neurology and Psychiatry Polyclinics.

1960

In 1960, Jl. Timor Psychiatric Hospital was used as a psychiatry and neurology clinic.

1960

In 1960, the first resident was dr. Djamaluddin S, followed by dr. Gading Hakim and dr. Perdana Tanzil.

1976

On January 15, 1976, the Psychiatry Section and Neurology Section, which had been united, were separated into two sections. The Psychiatry Preparation Section was headed by dr. Syafri Yusuf, Sp.KJ.

1987

In 1987, dr. Syafri Yusuf obtained his doctorate, and in 1988, he obtained his professorship from USU.

2007

In 2007, dr. Bahagia Loebis and dr. Syamsir Bongsoe received professorships in psychiatry from USU.

2007

dr. Perdana Tanzil, Sp.KJ, once served as Chair of the Psychiatry Study Program at FK USU, which was continued by dr. H. Harun T. Panduri, Sp.KJ (K), and the next period was chaired by Prof. dr. Bahagia Loebis, Sp.KJ (K). After that, the Chair of the Psychiatry Study Program at FK USU was continued by Prof. Dr. dr. Elmeida Effendy, M.Ked., Sp.KJ(K). During this period, she was awarded as the best Head of Study Program within USU, and the Psychiatry Study Program received Accreditation A and ISO 9001-2015 Certificate.

Now

Until now, the Psychiatry Study Program of FK USU has succeeded in producing a number of Psychiatrists, who are now actively carrying out their duties and contributing to the field of mental health in various regions throughout Indonesia.
