“The disaster that occurred in Aceh Tamiang is a shared tragedy that has affected the community not only physically, but also psychologically. Through this follow-up visit, we want to ensure that the community does not feel alone in the recovery process,” said dr. Inke Nadia Diniyanti Lubis, PGDip PID., FAAET., M.Ked(Ped)., Sp.A., Ph.D.

Monday, 15 December 2025. In collaboration with USU Peduli, the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) carried out a follow-up visit to several disaster-affected locations in Aceh Tamiang Regency as part of ongoing efforts to support community health recovery after the disaster. The activity was led by dr. Inke Nadia Diniyanti Lubis, PGDip PID., FAAET., M.Ked(Ped)., Sp.A., Ph.D., and was accompanied by FK USU academic staff, medical specialist residents (PPDS), and hospital administrative personnel.

The locations visited during this activity included the FK USU Post at the Regent’s Tribune, Tupah Bawah Village, and Kampung Dalam. At each location, the FK USU team monitored the health conditions of residents while distributing follow-up assistance based on the needs of the local community.

During the visit, the team distributed various forms of humanitarian aid, including basic food supplies, baby necessities, clean water, and medicines. This assistance is expected to help meet the basic needs of affected communities while supporting health recovery efforts during the post-disaster transition period.

In addition to distributing logistical aid, the doctors also provided free medical examinations and treatment to the community. The health services included general health check-ups, provision of medicines according to medical indications, and basic health education to prevent the emergence of post-disaster diseases, especially among vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and the elderly.

“The disaster that occurred in Aceh Tamiang is a shared tragedy that has affected the community not only physically, but also psychologically. Through this follow-up visit, we want to ensure that the community does not feel alone in the recovery process,” said dr. Inke.

“We hope that the provision of basic necessities and health services can help ease the burden, while also restoring spirit and hope so that the affected communities remain strong and are able to rebuild their lives going forward,” she added.

The activity took place in an atmosphere of warmth and togetherness. The joy of children was clearly visible as they received assistance and interacted with the doctors, while other community members warmly welcomed the FK USU team with enthusiasm and gratitude. The presence of medical personnel within the community not only provided direct health benefits, but also offered moral support and a sense of security for residents striving to recover from the impacts of the disaster.
