“The recitation of this pledge marks the starting point in shaping the professional character of doctors. We hope that junior doctors will consistently uphold ethical values, discipline, and empathy, and safeguard the good name of their alma mater throughout every stage of their education and service to the community,” stated Prof. Aldy.

The Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), conducted the Recitation of the Junior Doctor’s Pledge for the 2025 Period on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the 3rd Floor Hall of FK USU. The event was attended by all junior doctors and served as one of the essential stages in entering the clinical education phase.

The pledge recitation ceremony was carried out in a solemn and meaningful manner. The recitation was led by the Vice Dean I of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Dr. dr. Delyuzar, M.Ked(PS)., Sp.PA(K), and was read aloud by one student representative, then collectively followed by all junior doctors in attendance. This moment symbolized the moral and professional commitment of future doctors in undertaking their education and service in the field of healthcare.

In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. dr. Aldy Safruddin Rambe, Sp.S(K), emphasized that the junior doctor’s pledge is not merely a ceremonial ritual, but a form of ethical and academic responsibility that must be firmly upheld throughout professional medical education.

“The recitation of this pledge marks the starting point in shaping the professional character of doctors. We hope that junior doctors will consistently uphold ethical values, discipline, empathy, and protect the good name of their alma mater at every stage of education and service to the community,” Prof. Aldy reiterated.

Echoing this sentiment, the Head of the Doctor Professional Education Program (PSPPD) of FK USU, Prof. Dr. dr. Rina Amelia, MARS, FISPH., FISCM., Sp.KKLP., Subsp.FOMC, stated that this activity serves as a reminder of the strategic role of junior doctors as future medical professionals who will engage directly with the community.

“Through this pledge, junior doctors are expected to develop a strong commitment to integrity, responsibility, and professionalism throughout their clinical education in teaching hospitals and clinical training sites,” Prof. Rina explained.

The recitation of the junior doctor’s pledge is expected to instill the noble values of the medical profession from an early stage, while also strengthening the mental and ethical readiness of junior doctors in facing the challenges of the clinical environment and healthcare services.
