USU Rector Hands Over Bore Well Assistance for Communities Affected by the Disaster in Aceh Tamiang

The Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Director of RSUD Aceh Tamiang and all staff for the warm welcome and openness extended, which made the aid distribution and sharing activities run smoothly. On that occasion, USU provided assistance in the form of nine bore-well units and two water distillation units, which will be installed at several strategic locations across the Aceh Tamiang area.
Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), through its USU Peduli program, distributed assistance for the construction of bore wells for communities affected by the disaster in Aceh Tamiang Regency. The assistance was handed over directly by the Rector of USU, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., accompanied by the Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Medicine, USU, dr. Inke Nadia Diniyanti Lubis, PGDip PID, FAAET, M.Ked(Ped)., Sp.A., Ph.D, and the Director of Training, Research, and Cooperation at Prof. Dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Hospital (RS CPL) USU, dr. Ivana Alona, MPH., Sp.KKLP, to the Director of RSUD Aceh Tamiang, dr. Andika Putra, Sp.PD, as part of efforts to support post-disaster recovery, particularly in providing proper and sustainable access to clean water, on Thursday (29/01) to Friday (30/01/2026) in the Aceh Tamiang area.
This activity was also attended by the Majelis Rektor Perguruan Tinggi Negeri Indonesia (MRPTNI) as part of a humanitarian visit to the disaster-affected area in Aceh Tamiang Regency. The presence of MRPTNI reflects solidarity and synergy among state universities in supporting the post-disaster recovery of the affected communities.
In his remarks, the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Director of RSUD Aceh Tamiang and all staff for the warm welcome and openness that enabled the sharing and distribution of aid to be carried out smoothly. On this occasion, USU delivered assistance in the form of nine bore wells and two water distillation units, which will be installed at several strategic locations across the Aceh Tamiang area.
The Rector of USU also explained that, in addition to the assistance provided by USU, there was additional support collected from state universities that are members of the Majelis Rektor Perguruan Tinggi Negeri Indonesia (MRPTNI), which was also distributed during the same activity as a form of national solidarity in disaster response.
"Looking ahead, we would not stop at providing physical aid alone. USU will continue to provide technical support in various forms, ranging from educational programs for children in Aceh to community service activities focused on the rehabilitation of disaster-affected areas," said Prof. Muryanto.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of MRPTNI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Eduart Wolok, ST, MT, IPU, ASEAN.Eng., who also serves as Rector of Universitas Gorontalo, stated that the presence of MRPTNI in Aceh Tamiang reflects the spirit of unity and concern among all state universities in Indonesia. He emphasized that MRPTNI represents universities from various regions, so their participation in this activity symbolizes the concern of one Indonesia for communities affected by disaster.
The Director of RSUD Aceh Tamiang, dr. Andika Putra, Sp.PD, also expressed his appreciation for the assistance and concern shown by USU and all parties involved.
"We would like to thank Universitas Sumatera Utara and MRPTNI for their support. This bore well assistance is very beneficial, especially in supporting hospital operations and fulfilling the clean water needs of the community after the disaster," he said.
The bore well development program is the result of collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU) and USU Peduli, with support from the Indonesian Pediatric Society (IDAI) North Sumatra Branch and the Indonesian Endocrinology Association (PERKENI). This activity is part of community service and ongoing humanitarian efforts continuously carried out by USU.
