The Surgical Subspecialist Program of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara, aims to become a center for education, service, and development of surgical subspecialists who are superior, leading, and dignified in Indonesia in 2030. Producing oncology surgery subspecialists who can compete globally, especially in minimally invasive head and neck surgery and oncoplasty. Producing digestive surgery subspecialists who can plan, implement, and perform post-liver transplantation care.
With a focus on developing clinical skills and up-to-date knowledge, students in this program will undergo intensive practical education in various surgical fields, including general surgery, orthopedic surgery, and plastic surgery. Graduates of this program will become leaders in the field of surgery, provide high-quality care, and contribute to improving healthcare standards in Indonesia.

The vision of the Oncology and Digestive Surgery Specialization Subspecialist Study Program of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara is to become a center for education, service, and development of surgical subspecialists specializing in oncology and digestive surgery that is superior, leading, and dignified in Indonesia in 2030.
- To educate prospective oncology and digestive surgery subspecialists who can compete globally
- Manage and develop educators and students according to the progress and needs of science and technology of medical oncology and digestive surgery subspecialists through training, research, and community service.
- Providing services in the field of oncology and digestive surgery subspecialists in a plenary and referral manner oriented to patient needs, safety, quality, and affordability by all levels of society
- Developing professionalism, capability, and accountability in the governance of the surgical subspecialist medical education study program, with a specialization in oncology surgery and digestive surgery, and the independence of implementing the study program
- The Surgical Subspecialist Education Study Program specializing in Oncology and Digestive Surgery at FK USU is designed to have excellence in education and ability in live donor/cadaver liver transplantation and minimally invasive
Goals & Targets
- Have academic competence level 9 KKNI that can absorb, research, develop, and disseminate digestive surgery and oncology in accordance with advances in science and technology.
- Professional competence in the rank of digestive and oncology subspecialist doctors who are able to provide complex surgical services at a global standard and in accordance with the conditions and needs of the community.
- Able to apply the principles and methods of scientific thinking in solving problems of digestive and oncology surgical diseases.
- Ability to recognize, prioritize, and formulate approaches to solving problems of digestive and oncological surgical diseases through scientific reasoning, planning, implementation, and evaluation of preventive, promotive, curative, and rehabilitative efforts.
- Mastering knowledge and participating in developing technological knowledge in providing services for digestive and oncology surgical diseases.
- They should have good, professional skills and attitudes so that they can scientifically understand and solve the problems of digestive and oncological surgical diseases and can optimally practice them in the community.
- Able to handle cases with high professionalism through an evidence-based medicine (EBM) approach.
- Able to conduct research (essential, clinical, or public health) and have the motivation to develop their learning experience so that they can reach a higher academic level.
- Able to organize surgical services for digestive and oncology surgery so as to become a leader in the development of cancer services with high professionalism.
- Able to participate in digestive surgery and oncology education.
- Be open and responsive to changes and advances in science and technology or problems the community faces, especially those related to digestive and oncology surgical diseases.
- They must feel responsible for practicing medicine in a service system that is in accordance with the national health system and adheres to Indonesian medical ethics.
