“Post-disaster healthcare services must be delivered swiftly, in an integrated manner, and on a sustainable basis. Through cross-disciplinary collaboration and cooperation with local healthcare facilities, we strive to ensure that communities continue to receive optimal medical services,” stated dr. Dina Aprillia Ariestine, M.Ked(PD)., Sp.PD., Subsp.Ger.(K).

The Medical Team of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FK USU), from the Department and Study Program of Internal Medicine, provided humanitarian assistance while establishing an integrated health service post for disaster-affected communities in Hajoran Village, Central Tapanuli Regency. This initiative was carried out in collaboration with UPTD Poriaha Community Health Center (Puskesmas) as part of an integrated healthcare response in the affected area.

In its implementation, the FK USU medical team delivered health examinations, basic medical treatment, and health education to community members. The establishment of the health post aimed to ensure continued access to medical services, particularly for residents experiencing health problems in the aftermath of the disaster.

The FK USU medical team consisted of resident doctors (PPDS) from various disciplines, including Pediatrics, Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, Internal Medicine, and Psychiatry. This cross-disciplinary collaboration enabled comprehensive patient management, addressing both physical and mental health needs.

The activity was directly supervised by the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine, FK USU, dr. Dina Aprillia Ariestine, M.Ked(PD)., Sp.PD., Subsp.Ger.(K), along with the Secretary of the PPDS Education Coordination Team (TKP), dr. Badai Buana Nasution, M.Ked(Ped), Sp.A(K). This supervision reflects FK USU’s commitment to maintaining high standards of medical service while supporting clinically oriented, community-based medical education.

In her statement, dr. Dina Aprillia Ariestine emphasized that the presence of the FK USU medical team represents the institution’s responsibility in responding to community healthcare needs during emergency situations.

She further added that the activity also served as a valuable learning opportunity for resident doctors to sharpen their clinical competencies while fostering social awareness and professionalism in real-world field conditions.

Through this initiative, FK USU reaffirms its role not only as an institution of education and research, but also as a strategic partner in supporting community health services, particularly during emergency response and post-disaster recovery efforts.
